They are two different things, and you can buy only one of them. ChatGPT ads in the Philippines are labeled placements that appear below an answer, and you pay for them. No one can buy a mention inside the answer: OpenAI says ads do not influence ChatGPT’s answers. For most small businesses, the first step is to fix the facts AI tools read about you. An ad test makes sense once those facts are right and you can measure the leads.
OpenAI opened ChatGPT ads to advertisers in the Philippines on September 23, 2026, together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan. Ads already ran in the US, the UK and Australia. This post explains what an ad gets you, what it does not, and how to decide where to start.
What changed on September 23, 2026?
Businesses in the Philippines can now buy ads that appear in ChatGPT. Eligible businesses can set up campaigns themselves in OpenAI’s Ads Manager (ads.openai.com), or work through OpenAI’s ads team or a partner agency. With this rollout, OpenAI says ads are available in more than 60 countries.
OpenAI’s announcement does not state a minimum budget for the Philippines. A launch promotion gave ₱5,000 in ad credit to businesses that spent ₱5,000 by September 30, 2026. That offer has ended. Check current terms in Ads Manager before you plan a budget.
How is a ChatGPT ad different from being named in the answer?
An ad sits below the answer and carries an ad label. A mention is part of the answer itself. The table compares the two, based on OpenAI’s help page “Ads in ChatGPT”.
| Factor | ChatGPT ad | Named in the answer |
|---|---|---|
| Where it appears | Below ChatGPT’s response, labeled | Inside the response text |
| Who sees it | Free and Go users only | Anyone who asks a matching question |
| How it is chosen | Conversation topic, the ad’s content, targeting and your bid | ChatGPT’s own answer, from the sources it reads |
| Cost | Paid per view or click | No payment possible |
| When it stops | When your budget or campaign ends | When the sources or the answer change |
Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts do not see ads. If your buyers are professionals on a paid company plan, an ad will not reach them in ChatGPT, but a mention can.
Who will see a ChatGPT ad from your business?
Logged-in adults and logged-out users on the free experience, plus Go subscribers, in conversations where OpenAI allows ads. OpenAI’s help page lists the limits that matter most for local businesses:
- No ads for accounts that OpenAI identifies as under 18.
- No ads near sensitive topics, including personal health, mental health and politics.
- No ads in Temporary Chats.
- Free users can choose an ad-free option with lower usage limits.
The health rule matters for clinics. A patient who describes a personal symptom is in the kind of conversation where ChatGPT does not show ads. For many clinic questions, the answer is the only place your practice can appear.
When does it make sense to try ChatGPT ads?
When people ask ChatGPT about what you sell with a clear intent to buy, and you can measure what the ad brings in. Ads are a reasonable test if all of these are true:
- You sell a product or service people research before buying, such as a course, a software tool, a travel package or a home service with a clear price range.
- You have a landing page that matches the ad, with the price or offer, how to book and a working contact form.
- You can track results. GA4, a tagged link or a call log tells you which leads came from the ad.
- You have a fixed test budget and an end date, so a slow month does not turn into open-ended spending.
- Your basic facts are already correct online. People who click an ad still check your Google profile and reviews.
Wait if your service is health-related, if your buyers mostly use paid ChatGPT plans, or if you cannot yet track where a lead came from.

See where your business shows up in AI answers
We run ten of your buying questions through ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews and show you where you stand. A person replies within 24 hours, Monday to Friday. You keep the audit either way.
What should you fix before you spend on either?
The facts AI tools use to describe your business. An ad stops when the budget does, while correct facts keep working for every question you are eligible for. Before you buy ads, check these:
- Google Business Profile: verified, with the right category, hours, address or service area and phone number.
- Your website: services, prices or price ranges, location and contact details in plain text, not only in images.
- The same details everywhere: name, address, phone and hours identical on your website, Google, Facebook and directories.
- Reviews: recent reviews on Google, not only on Facebook.
If your business lives mainly on Facebook, read what AI tools see on a Facebook-only business. For the steps that help an AI answer name you, see how to get your business named in a ChatGPT answer.
How do you run a fair test of both?
Record where you stand first, then change one thing at a time.
- Write five to ten buying questions the way customers type them, in English, Filipino or both.
- Ask ChatGPT each question and save the answers. Note whether your business is named, who is named instead and whether any fact about you is wrong.
- Fix wrong or missing facts, then ask the same questions again after a few weeks.
- If you test ads, set a budget and a 30-day window, send clicks to one tagged landing page and count leads, not clicks.
- Compare the two at the end of the month: leads from the ad, what they cost, and any change in the answers.
Answers vary between sessions and locations, so judge the pattern across all your questions rather than one result. The consulting and audits page shows how a baseline test is run, and the Philippines page covers how AvantScale works with businesses here.
ChatGPT ads and AI answers: FAQ
Can I pay to be recommended in ChatGPT’s answer?
No. OpenAI says ads do not influence ChatGPT’s answers, and advertisers cannot change or rank responses. Paying buys a labeled ad below the answer, not a mention inside it.
Do ChatGPT ads show for health questions?
OpenAI says ads are not eligible to appear near sensitive topics, including personal health and mental health. Clinics and health services should expect few or no ad placements in conversations about a patient’s own symptoms.
Is there a minimum budget for ChatGPT ads in the Philippines?
OpenAI has not published one for the Philippines as of October 17, 2026. Ads Manager shows the current budget rules when you set up a campaign.
